Volcanic Wonder
Mount Suswa holds the unique and expansive lava tubes caves, with over 30 cave accesses. A section of these caves is popularly known as the Baboon’s Parliament. Every evening, baboon troops take shelter in the caves, from night hunters such as the Leopard. The term parliament best describes the behavior of the baboons, which once settled into the caves, appear to sit and await the daily address from the troop leaders. As the baboon troops arrive in the evening, they will encounter the departure of the world’s largest colony of giant Mastiff bats, daytime residents of the almost pitchdark caves. This change of guard repeats daily.
